OSU Veterinary Students Support Josh and Friends Project

Several veterinary students at Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences recently worked with the Red Dirt Dog Agility Club to raise money for The Josh & Friends Project.  The Red Dirt Dog Agility Club donated $500 to The Josh & Friends Project in exchange for the students volunteering at the club’s latest agility trial.

Alumnus Helps Control Deer Population

Dr. Brad Hildabrand (OSU 79) recently volunteered with White Buffalo Inc. to help sterilize white tailed deer in East Hampton, NY. Female white-tailed deer were captured using remote immobilization (darting) techniques. Deer were then transported to a temporary veterinary surgical sterilization site, where bilateral ovariectomies were performed using a ventral mid-line approach under general anesthesia.

Dan Burba grew up on a farm in eastern Kentucky and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. He came to Oklahoma State University in 1986 to complete an internship followed by a residency.  Even though he left OSU in 1990 upon completion of those positions, Oklahoma remained a favorite of his.  So much so that when invited to interview for an open position at the center’s Veterinary Medical Hospital, he said he “couldn’t miss that opportunity.”

Thanks to a generous donation from the estate of Ms. Leah Cohn Arendt, matched by Oklahoma State University funds, the Center for Veterinary Health Sciences established the Cohn Pet Care Facility.  In 1998, the facility opened offering pet owners long term care and a home for their beloved family members long after the owner is gone.

First Toxicology Fellowships Awarded

(Stillwater, Okla., November 24, 2014) – The OSU Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program recently awarded five graduate fellowships for the first time since the inception of the program in October 2012.  Among the recipients was Manushree Bharadwaj, a PhD candidate at OSU’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences.
