Toxicology Symposium

Tuesday, February 3 2015

The Oklahoma State Center for Veterinary Health Sciences will host the First Interdisciplinary Toxicology Symposium including the 15th Sitlington Lecture in Toxicology during OSU Research Week.

The Sitlington Lecture in Toxicology on February 19 will feature Robert Tanguay, PhD, Distinguished Professor, Director of the NIEHS Toxicology Training Grant and Sinnhuber Aquatic Research Laboratory at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore.

Tanguay will present “High Throughput Assessment of Bioactivity Using Zebrafish: High Content Data for the 21st Century” at 4 p.m. in McElroy Hall Auditorium.  The presentation is open to the public at no charge.  His talk will focus on the advantages of the zebrafish model to improve human health.  His work evaluates environmental biological interactions in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, the pharmaceuticals we take, the chemicals we are exposed to, etc.

The Interdisciplinary Toxicology Symposium begins at 1 p.m. on Feb. 19 in McElroy Hall, located at the corner of McFarland and West Farm Road. Five graduate toxicology fellows will each present a synopsis of their research followed by two outside experts—Dr. Ken Olivier from Merrimack Pharmaceuticals and Dr. Anna Lowit from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  All presentations will focus on various aspects of toxicology research and how it affects both human and animal health.
