Faculty and students at Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences recently participated in a STEM education night at the Payne County Expo Center located just outside Stillwater.
Drs. Jill Akkerman and Susan Fielder, Megan Dulle, class of 2021, and Megan Sitzman, class of 2020, helped area elementary school aged children build a model of a lung and diaphragm. They also had heart and lung specimens for the students to examine.
The event was sponsored by the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board as part of OERB’s mission to encourage children to get engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Akkerman is an associate professor of anatomy in the Department of Physiological Sciences and Fielder is a clinical assistant professor of clinical pathology in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology.
