Tuesday, June 26, 2018

Murphee Stepanek of Dallas, Texas, receives the 2018 Dean Clarence H. McElroy Award. She is pictured with former McElroy Award winners (left to right) Drs. John Otto (’90), Michael Lorenz (’69) and Robert Streeter (’87).

Thanks to the generosity of its donors, Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences recently awarded $551,700 to 146 veterinary students.

“We appreciate all of our donors who make these scholarships possible,” said Dr. Carlos Risco, dean of the veterinary center. “As dean, I am always delighted for the opportunity to recognize our students for their accomplishments and help decrease their debt load. This year we are excited to announce three new scholarships—the Dr. Hartfield Veterinary Book Series Mixed Animal Scholarship, the Class of 1989 Scholarship, and the Dr. Kathleen V. Green Gardner Distinguished Graduate Fellowship.”

Receiving top honors for the Class of 2018 was Murphee Stepanek of Dallas, Texas. Stepanek received the Gentle Doctor Award and the Dean Clarence H. McElroy Award, which is the highest honor a fourth year OSU veterinary student can achieve.

In addition, the following faculty and researcher were recognized:

  • Dr. Jill Akkerman, First Year Class Teaching Award
  • Dr. Tim Snider, Second Year Class Teaching Award
  • Dr. Shane Lyon, Third Year Class Teaching Award
