Healthy Animals - Healthy People

Avian, Exotics and Zoo Medicine

The Avian, Exotics and Zoo Medicine (AEZ) Service treats a variety of extraordinary animals from privately owned exotic pets to zoo animals to free-ranging wildlife. OSU offers the latest in veterinary medical care to nontraditional animals such as birds, reptiles, and small mammals.

The AEZ team has access to modern veterinary medicine technology including CT scanners, and an MRI.

The interdisciplinary style at the Veterinary Medical Hospital allows the AEZ team access to many board certified specialists in fields such as surgery, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, radiology and more.

Policy for Providing Veterinary Care for Privately Owned Native Wildlife and Other Exotic Species

The OSU Veterinary Medical Hospital provides veterinary services for a large variety of exotic pets. These exotic pets represent and include those which are not considered to be a native wildlife species.

The VMH does not condone the ownership of native wildlife species and therefore does not provide veterinary care for privately owned native wildlife species (which include but are not limited to skunks, raccoons, etc.).

Furthermore, the OSU VMH does not provide veterinary care for the following:

  • privately owned primates
  • large carnivores (which include but are not limited to wolves, large cats [tigers, lions, etc.] and hybrids of such species)
  • venomous reptiles

Please call 405-744-7000 if you have any questions regarding whether your animal would be considered one of these species.
