VBS Master of Science Program

Program Admission Requirements

  • Earned BS or higher degree in sciences
  • Graduate Records Exam (GRE) scores of 75 percentile on quantitative are recommended
  • 3.0 GPA or 75% of the maximal GPA is recommended
  • Statement of purpose stating how earning a graduate degree in VBSC will further your education and career goals
  • Three letters of reference from individuals able to assess your potential success in graduate studies
  • Probationary admission status may be awarded to those not having these credentials dependent on recommendations of the VBSC program faculty

Graduate College Admission Requirements

Domestic and Permanent Residents

  • Must complete an application for admission
  • Non-refundable application fee of $40 for the first on-line application
  • One original transcript from each college or university attended

International

  • Must complete an application for admission
  • Non-refundable application fee of US$75 for the first application submitted
  • One original transcript from each college or university attended
  • A TOEFL or IELTS score
  • A Financial Affidavit is required for applicants expecting to be F1 or J1 visa holders prior to an I-20 being sent

Degree Requirements

  • AB or BS or higher degree in sciences required
  • The MS may be earned with 30 credit hours beyond a bachelor’s degree or 21 hours beyond the DVM or equivalent degree including required coursework:
    • VBSC 5013 Veterinary Biomedical Sciences I: Cell and Molecular Biology
    • VBSC 5023 Veterinary Biomedical Sciences II: Pathophysiology
    • STAT 5013 Statistics for Experimenters I
    • VBSC 6110 Seminar
    • VBSC 5000 MS Research and Thesis (not more than 6 credit h)
  • Participate in research laboratory rotations and/or select thesis advisor
  • Select thesis advisory committee (minimum 3 members)
  • Develop Plan of Study including required and elective coursework
  • Complete required and elective courses to meet credit hour requirements
  • Conduct MS thesis research project and write MS thesis
  • Present public seminar and defend MS thesis
